What is it?

This decree-law creates five new traffic signs.

What will change?

Signs related to electronic toll collection

In some highways, toll collection will be made electronically, with no need to go through a toll gate.

To let drivers know they are entering or leaving an automatic toll collection area, the following signs will be used:

New traffic sign H44a: motorway section with electronic toll collection; rectangular blue sign with white square in the middle which contains the euro currency symbol, a car and a radio wave graphic representing the fee being charged wirelessly. New traffic sign H44b: motorway section with electronic toll collection x meters ahead; rectangular blue sign with square in the middle which contains the euro currency symbol, a car and a radio wave graphic representing the fee being charged wirelessly; at the bottom there is the distance to the toll (300 meters, in this case).New traffic sign H44c: motorway section with electronic toll collection in the direction of the arrow ; rectangular blue sign with white square in the middle which contains the euro currency symbol, a car and a radio wave graphic representing the fee being charged wirelessly; at the bottom there is an arrow that points the way to the toll collection.New traffic sign H45: end of motorway section with electronic toll collection; rectangular blue sign with white square in the middle which contains the euro currency symbol, a car and a radio wave graphic representing the fee being charged wirelessly.

Signs related to automatic speed monitoring

The National Road Safety Strategy predicts the setup of automatic speed control devices on some roads. The goal is to encourage drivers to respect speed limits and decrease the number of accidents.

To let drivers know they are driving in an automatic speed monitoring zone, the following sign will be used:

New traffic sign H43: section of road with electronic speed detection; rectangular blue sign with white square in the middle containing a car, a motorcycle,a truck and a radio wave graphic representing speed of the vehicles being detected wirelessly.

What are its benefits?

These traffic signs will inform drivers that innovative ways of toll collection and speed control are being used.

When does it come into effect?

This decree-law comes into effect the day after being published.
