Summary in plain english (Without legal value)
What is it?
This decree-law extends the time for which the decree that established exceptional and temporary rules for the practice of acts by means of distance communication in the context of the COVID-19 disease pandemic must be in force.
Given the public health emergency of international scope, declared by the World Health Organization on 30 January 2020, as well as the classification, on 11 March 2020, of the COVID-19 disease as a pandemic, the Government has been approving a set of extraordinary and urgent measures in several matters.
What is going to change?
The decree-law that established exceptional and temporary rules for the practice of acts by means of distance communication in the context of the COVID-19 disease pandemic (Decree-Law No. 16/2020, of 15 April) is extended until 31 December 2020.
What advantages does it bring?
The practice of acts by means of distance communication, carried out in the processes that take place in the Justices of the Peace and in the procedures conducted by the National Institute of Industrial Property proved to be a very positive experience.
The extension of these measures waivers the need to travel and be physically present in the services' premises, promoting the social distancing that one should have at this time of pandemic, and also allows a better response from these services.
When does it enter into force?
This decree-law enters into force on the day following its publication.
