Decree Law No. 81/2021

Publication: Republic Diary No. 197/2021, Series I of 2021-10-11
  • Issuer: Presidency of the Council of Ministers
  • Diploma Type: Decree Law
  • Number: 81/2021
  • Pages: 3 - 5

Summary in plain english

What is it?

This decree-law proceeds to amend:

    • The short-term credit line for natural or legal persons engaged in agriculture, forestry and livestock breeding in mainland Portugal;
    • The Family Farming Statute.
What is going to change?

The requirements for recognition have been changed, making it a criterion for the award of the title that the applicant is the beneficiary of an amount of support not exceeding 5000€ from the Common Agricultural Policy Basic Payment Scheme and the Small Farming Scheme and that income from agricultural activity is equal to or greater than 20% of the total taxable income.

Currently, more than 90% of the Statute's holders are natural persons and its scope is being redefined so that it no longer includes legal persons, with the Statute being awarded only to natural persons who own family farms, bringing this amendment into line with current reality.

What advantages does it bring?

This decree-law makes the process lighter and less bureaucratic by making it possible to exchange information and/or data by computer of the Ministry of Agriculture, in particular by making it compulsory for applicants for the Statute to register in the parcel identification system.

When does it enter into force?

This decree-law shall enter into force within 30 days of its publication.
