What is it?

This decree-law changes the safety rules for toys with regard to aluminium, formaldehyde and allergenic fragrances.

What is going to change?

Member States shall reinforce the measures necessary to ensure that toys are only placed on the market if they comply with the essential and specific requirements, in particular as regards the physical, mechanical and chemical properties of toys.

The following is transposed into the national legal order:

    • The technical and scientific progress in the current migration limit values for aluminium present in toys or components of toys;
    • The adoption of specific limit values for chemicals used in certain toys, as regards formaldehyde;
    • The labelling and/or banning of allergenic fragrances in toys;
What advantages does it bring?

This decree-law aims to select the best and most appropriate choice for this type of product, ensuring that children continue to benefit from a high level of protection.

When does it enter into force?

This decree-law enters into force on 1 July 2021. The provisions concerning the labelling of allergenic fragrances in toys and the ban on allergenic fragrances in toys take effect from 5 July 2022.
