Summary in plain english

What is it?

This decree-law amends the Cultural Heritage Safeguard Fund.

What is going to change?

The Safeguard Fund will now finance investments in classified real estate, by order of the member of the Government responsible for the area of culture, which are qualified as urgent taking into account certain factors, such as:

    • the public access to the real estate;
    • the protection of real estate included in the UNESCO World Heritage List;
    • the suitability of the investments to the risk factors and to the heritage safeguard needs.

The sources of revenue of the Safeguard Fund will be those from European funds, namely under the "Next Generation EU" financial instruments.

What advantages does it bring?

This decree-law enables the Safeguard Fund to play an important role in the operationalization of the investments foreseen in the Recovery and Resilience Plan for the rehabilitation of the immovable cultural heritage.

When does it enter into force?

This decree-law enters into force on 8 June 2021.
