What is it?

This decree-law amends the legal scheme of medicines for human use, also known as the "Medicine Statute".

What is going to change?

It will prohibit the advertising of discounts in the price of some medicines, namely medicines subject to medical prescription, as well as medicines co-participated by the National Health Service, which advertising of the medicines themselves is already prohibited. In the absence of this prohibition of the advertising of discounts, there may be an incentive to the acquisition of medicines, promoting a consumption that may be inadequate to a rational, safe and effective use of the same.

What advantages does it bring?

This decree-law allows the reformulation of the rules on advertising of medicines, seeking to ensure the respect for public health and consumer interests.

When does it enter into force?

This decree-law enters into force on 1 July 2021.
