Summary in plain english

What is it?

This decree-law changes the scheme that creates the Mata do Buçaco Foundation (hereinafter FMB) and approves its bylaws.

What is going to change?

The FMB is authorised to launch a tender procedure for the conclusion of a concession contract for the running of the Palace Hotel do Buçaco. The financial consideration will be the payment to the FMB, thus forming part of its revenue.

The appointment of the president of the Board of Directors will now be held by the member of the Government responsible for forests instead of the City Council of Mealhada.

The exploration of Palace Hotel do Buçaco shall be attributed, under a concession regime for the exploration of public assets, through a public tender, with international publicity.

The term of the contract may not exceed 50 years, without prejudice to cases in which the extension is imposed for reasons of economic-financial rebalancing of the contract.

There may be technical and financial cooperation, through agreements entered into with the direct or indirect administration of the State or with local authorities.

What advantages does it bring?

This decree-law intends to value Mata do Buçaco and regularize the tender procedure regarding the exploration of Palace Hotel do Buçaco, through the change of its administration model.

When does it enter into force?

This decree-law enters into force on 17 June 2021.
