Summary in plain english
This decree-law updates the scheme that regulates access to the benefits of the National Health Service (SNS) by users with regard to the scheme of user charges and the application of special benefit schemes.
What is going to change?From 1 January 2021, the SNS will not be required to charge user charges for complementary diagnostic and therapeutic examinations prescribed within the primary health care network and carried out outside public health institutions and services.
What advantages does it bring?By providing for a new exemption from the collection of user charges in the SNS, this decree-law strengthens the SNS and makes it fairer and more inclusive, responding better to the needs of the population.
It allows citizens to reduce the costs they bear in health and guarantees universal health coverage.
When does it enter into force?This decree-law enters into force on 9 November 2020.
The new exemption from the collection of user charges in the SNS only comes into effect on 1 January 2021.
