This decree-law designates the competent entities to ensure the registration and processing of data registered in the National Register of Animals Used in Circuses (CNAUC), to manage and update the National Portal of Animals Used in Circuses (PNAUC), to make the seizures of animals found in circuses and to provide for the relocation of wild animals in reception centers.What is going to change?
It is insured:
- The registration and processing of data recorded in CNAUC;
- The publication of data in the (PNAUC);
- The seizure of non-declared animals;
- The voluntary relocation of wild animals to reception centres.
The Directorate General for Food and Veterinary Affairs (DGAV) is the entity responsible for the management of CNAUC and PNAUC, ensuring its operation, registration and processing of the data gathered therein.
The Institute for the Conservation of Nature and Forests (ICNF) is responsible for ensuring the registration of specimens of wild species prohibited from use in circuses, and this communication is subsequently made to the DGAV, so that these records appear in the CNAUC and PNAUC
The ICNF is also responsible for coordinating the programme for the voluntary transfer of specimens of wild species banned from circuses.What advantages does it bring?
This decree-law is intended to respond to the strengthening of the protection of animals used in circuses, especially with regard to their keeping, as well as to the determination on the end of the use of wild animals in circuses.When does it enter into force?
This decree-law enters into force on 4 August 2020.
