What is it?

This decree-law integrates the use of Monte Novo in the scheme that approved the managing entities and the conditions and special terms of the concession contracts for the attribution of the management of the hydraulic infrastructures of the multipurpose undertakings.

What is going to change?

The management and operation of the hydraulic infrastructures of Monte Novo, a development classified as a multipurpose undertaking, will now be carried out, through a concession contract, by the public company Águas do Vale do Tejo, S.A., one of its main users (for the purposes of public water supply for human consumption).

The term for the concession contract for the management of the hydraulic infrastructure of Monte Novo is 30 days, from the date of entry into force of this decree-law.

What advantages does it bring?

The State, through the Agência Portuguesa do Ambiente, I.P. [Portuguese Agency for the Environment], has ensured the management and maintenance of the infrastructures associated to several uses.

The signing of these concession contracts by which the management and operation of the hydraulic infrastructures is transferred to one of its main users guarantees the economic and financial sustainability of the infrastructures common to various uses of water resources.

It also ensures their effective management, exploitation, and conservation, by applying the user-pays principle.

When does it enter into force?

This decree-law enters into force on 21 July 2020.
