This regulatory decree classifies sites of community importance (SCIs), which exist in mainland Portugal, as Special Areas of Conservation (SACs).

What is going to change?

With the classification of SCIs as SACs, a legal obligation is fulfilled.

In order to ensure the conservation of the habitats and protected species present in SACs, the conservation, safeguarding and complementary conservation measures to which they are subject are identified.

What advantages does it bring?

This regulatory decree formalizes and identifies in a single document the measures for the maintenance or re-establishment of the conservation status of natural habitats in SCIs.

When does it enter into force?

This decree-law enters into force on 17 March 2020.
