This decree establishes the technical specifications applicable to the marking of firearms and their essential components and establishes the technical conditions applicable to devices designed for alarm, signalling or rescue purposes which are available on the market.

What is going to change?

The markings will now have a specific size so that firearms and their components can be traced.

Member States are obliged to respect the minimum size established in the markings.

The defined specifications ensure that the devices are not modified to fire bullets or projectiles through the action of propellant.

What advantages does it bring?

This decree-law prevents alarm, starter, gas and signalling weapons from being converted into firearms.

It facilitates the exchange of information between Member States, which are called upon to appoint a national focal point in order to provide information to other Member States.

When does it enter into force?

This decree-law enters into force on 10 March 2020.
