What is it?

This decree-law chooses the management entities and approves the conditions and special terms of the concession contracts for the assignment of the hydraulic infrastructure management.

What is going to change?

The management and operation of the following is assigned:

    • hydraulic infrastructures that are part of the public domain of the State and which main use is public supply
    • hydraulic plants which sole user are public companies that use at least one main use of the water resources allocated to these hydraulic infrastructures.

The private use of water resources in the public domain of the State is subject to prior concession and entering of the respective concession contract between the Agência Portuguesa do Ambiente, I.P. (Portuguese Environment Association) and the managing entities of public water supply systems for public consumption.

What advantages does it bring?

This decree-law promotes the collaboration between the State and the users of water resources, sharing the costs among all users, so that the use is efficient and sustainable.

When does it enter into force?

This decree-law enters into force on the day following its publication.
