This decree-law ensures the execution of the European legislation related to the personal protection equipment (PPE), regarding the PPE’s control and supervision.
The PPE are equipment manufactured to be used in order to protect the person who wears it against health and safety risks. For example, equipment to prevent falls from a height, for the prevention of drowning or for the protection against the noise.
This decree-law also establishes rules on the PPE’s introduction on the market, supervision of the compliance with the law, instruction of infraction processes and application of sanctions in the case of non-compliance.What is going to change?
The provision on the market and/or the put into service, by any economic operator, of personal protection equipment must comply with the requirements deemed as relevant for the user’s health and safety.
The Instituto Português da Qualidade, I. P. (IPQ, I. P. [Portuguese Institute of Quality]), is the national authority competent to monitor the execution of this decree-law’s rules.
The Instituto Português de Acreditação, I. P. (IPAC, I. P. [Portuguese Institute of Accreditation]), as a national accreditation body, is responsible for the control of the conformity assessment bodies.
The supervision of the application of this decree-law’s rules shall be carried out by the Economic and Food Safety Authority (ASAE), which must process the infraction processes.What advantages does it bring?
